2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS

Really Sporty, that’s what RS stands for in this part of the world. Chevrolet’s new sporty car is more than just that and packs in comfort, style and elegance. In contrast to regular Sonic which is available in four-door, three-box sedan versions, the RS version is exclusively offered as a five door hatchback.The exterior has a RS specific grille, fog lights, new rear bumper and spoiler as well as the all new rocker panel. The other downside of the car is the plastic exterior feel, which makes it look a little cheap when compared to its competitor Ford Fiesta.

The classy interior comes loaded withleather seats and leather wrapped, flat bottomed steering wheel. The inception of aluminum sport pedals, a new shift knob (6MT only), and exceptional instruments that seem to be inspired by motorcycle gauge cluster, are all designed to impress.

The Chevrolet’s standard stereo and Bluetooth system, MyLink, which provides smartphone based navigation,will certainly woo the young lot who are so obsessed with technology.The red trimmed floor mats match prettily with the leather finished seats.

The Sonic RS engine is clearly way ahead of regular Sonics, and stands out distinctly with 1.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder Ecotec engine. This engine can ideally deliver 138 horsepower at 4,900 rpm, and 148 lb-ft of twist at 2,500 rpm. The mileage is pretty decent if not impressive at 29/40 mpg.

Another exclusive feature of the Sonic RS is the rear disc brakes. The test drive reveals the clutch is light, while the suspension is stiffer and lower. The electric power steering is fine, but the manual steering quality decreases off the center. However the inconvenience can be attributed to the shorter wheel base. Neverthelessone can easily adjust to it.
